Q. For what ages are these classes designed?
A. Pre k through high school! We're planning activities for all ages.
Q. Will all ages be together, or will they be divided up?
A. All ages will be together, although activities will be slightly different based on ages and abilities. The programs have been designed to allow families to "roam" between activity stations at their own pace.
Q. Can we register for both of the programs in a month?
A. The theme and activities will be the same for both programs in a given month. Please register for just one to give other families a chance to participate!
Q. Are there really only 20 spots for each date?
A. To start, yes. We have very limited staffing outside of the summer season. If both monthly programs fill up and/or if we have enough site staff/volunteers to help, then we may open additional dates or increase the registration caps.
Q. What time are the programs?
A. 10am-2pm. They're intended to be "full day" programs, but if you've got younger children with short attention spans you can come and go as you please. The programs will be structured to allow flexibility and "free roam" time around the site as well!
Q. Are parents expected to stay and participate with their children as they do the activities?
A. Yes, absolutely! The programs have been designed to allow families to "roam" between activity stations at their own pace. A parent or guardian is required to stay for the duration of the program.
Q. Do we need to bring supplies?
A. There is a small registration fee for each program to cover the cost of supplies, so you don't have to worry about bringing your own.
Q. What do the T-Shirts look like?
A. The shirts are being custom-printed based on order numbers, so we don't have one on hand yet. They're supposed to be a dark red/maroon with white print. The front will say "Home School Historians" and have a Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site logo, and the back will be a Lincoln quote, "Determine that the thing can and shall be done, and then we shall find the way."
Q. Will participating children get to "dress up" in historic clothing during the program/ will LLCSHS be providing historic clothing?
A. Unfortunately, not this fall, but maybe in the future! We're afraid that we may not have enough outfits to dress everyone right now, and we don't want anyone to feel left out.
Q. If my children love the program and are interested in volunteering at the site, can they do that?
A. You can volunteer as a family! Youth volunteers (ages 15 and under) must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is also volunteering. We host a monthly new volunteer orientation at 9am on the 3rd Saturday every month, followed by additional training on dates you choose!
